FBN ROMANIA is an NGO established in 2012 for the purpose of assisting local entrepreneurs with the inherent family dimension of their businesses. In addition, FBN Romania was set-up to help educate owners on how best to keep the business within the family, which is a new approach for young businesses in Romania. It is well known that Romania had one of the most oppressive communist economies up until 1989, with all the companies being State-owned and all private initiatives being forbidden. Unofficial statistics suggest now that, in Romania, about 65% of the companies are family businesses. Obviously, they are still mostly in the first generation, having being started after 1990.

FBN Romania aims to help family firms to acknowledge their importance within the national economy. We promote Romanian business by protecting the legitimate and specific interests of family businesses through representation at local, central and international authorities.

We believe that everybody wins in the case of family businesses – the companies, the owners, the employees and the State. Family businesses keep and train their workers, facilitate the development of private and public services around them, collateral industries and activities, such as schools, commerce and infrastructures. They employ people and constantly invest in their local communities.

We joined EFB in November 2015 and we are proud to be a part of such a group and it will be a pleasure to work together in the future. Our mission, as with our other national partners, is to highlight the importance of the family business sector in Europe. We stand ready to face this mission.
