European Family Businesses: Call for Competitiveness

As the new European Commission and European Parliament mandate begins and ahead of the release of the Commission’s Work Programme, European Family Businesses (EFB) has put together a document stipulating the key challenges facing European family businesses and non-family businesses alike.

We ask the European Institutions to consider what kind of Europe we want to leave for the next generations and point out the importance of companies to their local communities, to the livelihoods of millions of people, and to the national balance sheets.  In our document, you will find five overarching pillars that must be handled as soon as possible to secure not only European Competitiveness, but also to ensure that businesses can work efficiently and effectively within the European economy.

The following are the 5 pillars that our document focuses on:

  • Reduction of administrative burden and reporting.
  • Re-thinking Europe’s industrial strategy – strengthening Europe’s industrial base, trade agreements, and job preservation.
  • Increase investment in Research, Development, and Innovation.
  • Closing the skills gap and preparing for the skills shift.
  • The need for solid financing.
