Thanks to the EU COSME programme, the Family Business Institute of Poland was able to determine that 92% of its total businesses can be defined as family businesses. However, a study showed that only 36% of businesses consider themselves to be family businesses. Families are directly involved in day-to-day business management in only 23% of companies; potentially because Poland only saw a strong rise in entrepreneurship after 1989, meaning a lot of its family businesses are stilll in the hands of theire founders
