European Family Businesses has, with its members, been exploring the topic of Mid-Caps and calling for a category at European level for several years.
Last year in the SME Relief Package, published by the European Commission in Action 18, the Commission noted that they will, “be attentive to the needs of companies that outgrow the thresholds of the SME definition, as well as the broader range of small mid-cap companies…”. They also committed to developing a harmonised definition for SMCs and building a dataset based on the aforementioned definition.
Attached you will find EFB’s recommendations of what the definition of Small Mid-Caps (SMCs) should consist of.
