JANUARY – JUNE 2020
Message from the President

The past 6 months have been a whirlwind, not just for our family business community but for the whole of society. COVID-19 has had an unprecedented effect globally and thrown our societies and economies into complete disrepute. My best wishes go to all our members, families and friends, and my sincere condolences are offered to those who have experienced hardship and loss throughout this crisis.

EFB Position Paper on the European Green Deal

The European Green Deal is the most ambitious project ever undertaken to reverse the effects of man-made climate change. Europe's response to this climate emergency is ambitious and far-reaching. Governments, businesses, non-governmental organisations and citizens must unite to deliver on the Green Deal. Family businesses, as the producers of goods and services, as consumers of energy and raw materials, and as major employers, want to make the Green Deal work for all.

COVID-19 Urgent Measures for the Family Business Community

The COVID-19 pandemic is the greatest challenge our society has faced in modern times. It also represents the first time we, as a society, have had to focus on a temporary issue. The crisis has caused extremely uncertain times for the whole world, but no more so than for our businesses. The importance of our businesses in our society and their role in the exit strategy following the COVID-19 pandemic must not be underestimated.

EFB Position Paper on the Industrial and SME Strategy: A Neglect of Family Businesses?

The Industrial Strategy from the European Commission and the accompanying SME strategy are a strong addition to the work plan for the next Commission and EFB welcome their proposal.

The 3-pillar strategy focusing on digitalisation, resilience and sustainability sets out a well-co-ordinated strategy, however there are significant shortcomings and with no mention of Family Businesses, EFB would like to highlight the need for significant changes to the document.

COVID-19 Exit Strategy and Sustainable Recovery Proposals Paper: The answers from responsible capital.

As the rate of infections and deaths are on the decline in certain countries, it is now vitally important that we start to think about how we will exit from the COVID-19 crisis and how we will plan the economic recovery. EFBs Exit Strategy and Sustainable Recovery Proposal sets out how Europe's family businesses can play a key part and help in this recovery.

Family Businesses fighting back against COVID-19

Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, EFB have had to be creative in how we engage with our members and the creation of our COVID-19 webinars to bring the chapters from across to Europe have been a revelation. These webinars have enabled the network to stay up to date with the developments of the crisis across Europe, whilst also discuss ideas of how we as a network are able to help in the light of the crisis.
